Our Reach

The map above shows the distribution of locations across the District that members travel from in order to attend clubs.

Our clubs are available to anyone in Keynsham and the surrounding areas with a learning disability or autism and to their families.

A Fully Self-Funded Charity

We are affiliated with National Mencap but as an independent local charity we need to raise all our own funds.

Our Vision

We want to make a positive difference to the lives of people with a learning disability and autism in the Keynsham District area. We want people with a learning disability and autism to be valued equally, listened to and included.

We have only the highest aspirations of what can be achieved by someone with a learning disability.

Our vision is a future where everyone with a learning disability has the same opportunities as anyone else to participate in their community, meet people and develop friendships.

Our Mission

We will achieve our vision by:

  • Listening to the wishes, aims, hopes and aspirations of people with a learning disability and their carers.
  • Being a source of information, support and help for people with a learning disability and their families and carers.
  • Provide quality social and leisure activities and opportunities for our members.
  • Working across Keynsham and the surrounding district to provide lifelong opportunities for people with learning disabilities to create the lifestyle they choose and be equal and active members of the community.
  • Adopting a person centred approach, listening to people’s needs and treating everyone with dignity and respect.
  • To raise awareness of the positive contribution and potential of people with a learning disability.
  • Ensuring our staff and volunteers are supported, highly motivated and passionate.
  • Work with people and groups that want the same things that we do.
  • Run Keynsham & District Mencap Society using sound management principles, systems and tools

About Us

Our Values

  • Being people centred.

  • Transforming lives.
  • Being brave and developing new ideas.
  • Promoting positive views of learning disability.

What we offer

We run weekly social clubs, sports clubs and a music club. We organise annual week-long holidays for adults and weekend breaks for children and young people. We also arrange day trips such as Millfield Day and Bob Cook Games and seasonal activities such as Easter's Egg-stravaganza, Halloween's Spooktacular and the Christmas Santa's Grotto.

We run a Members Committee that meet quarterly. They tell us what they want from their clubs and how we can improve the activities we offer.

Keynsham & District Mencap Society works with all who want to improve the quality of life for people with a learning disability or autism. We work in partnership and co-operate with all statutory and voluntary agencies that share its aims.
